Last week Aaron graduated from BYU with his bachelors degree. Yahoo!! We are so proud of you Aaron. It was such a fun weekend because Aaron's parents flew in from Atlanta and mine came in from Calgary. Also Grandma Saunders was able to come up from Salt Lake, and Aaron's Grandma and Grandpa Salmon came from Calgary. It was like a mini family reunion. We had a great weekend filled with lots of yummy food, and fun visits. We really appreciate everyone who came to support Aaron, thank you!! I can't believe our time in Provo is over. We have had so much fun living there. We are going to miss all the Salmon's so much. Ross and Karen's has been our home away from home for the past 3 years and it is going to be weird not going over there for all the fun dinners and parties.
Aaron & Gary
Well not only did we have a fun weekend, we also had a stressful one. We had to pack up our whole house and move it into storage for the summer, and that is never fun. Thank you to all the guys that came and helped move, we NEVER would have been able to do it with out you all. And thanks mom for cleaning so much, it was a great help. We then packed up our van with everything we need for the summer up in Calgary and headed out for the long drive north. We stayed the first night in Logan with Diane and Conrad. (Thank you so much) and had a great visit until about 1:00am. Then we woke up early and made it to the boarder at about 9:00pm. We thought we would just breeze by with no problems because we have never really had problems in the past. Well we were sure wrong. Because Aaron has already graduated from BYU his student Visa is no longer valid, and we didn't have the new Visa from USC yet. So we were Canadians driving a US vehicle trying to get into Canada. This did not go over well. They wouldn't let us bring our van into Canada. They said the only way we could bring it into Canada would be to import it for $900, and then when we go back to the states in 3 months we would have to import it back into the US. Even though he is technically still a student because he will be returning to school in the fall (but at a different school) they didn't care. So we had to go back into the US and find a hotel for the night. My dad drove all the way from Calgary in the middle of the night to pick us up. (thank you dad) So our van is still in Sweetgrass Montana. In a couple weeks USC will be able to get Aaron the proper paper work and then we can go pick up our van. We were at the boarder 3 hours that night and then another 3 hours the next morning. Now we know there are rules and laws about these kinds of things, and leaving our van wasn't the biggest problem for us. It was the way they treated us. We were treated like we were the worst criminals they have ever come across. I was crying pretty much the whole time, not because of our van but because how we were treated. I hate the boarder patrol, they are all on a power trip and have way to much power. Well we finally made it have a had a great time so far hanging out with family.

That totally sucks...but I know what you mean about border patrol! They are totally on a power trip and I hate it...they try to ask the same questions in such a sneaky way that you can't help but feel nervous about answering them...lately they've been asking me what I do for a living everytime I go to the states (not like it's their business)and next time I want to just tell them I'm an exotic dancer...maybe I'd get a smile!
That's so lame, Sorry.
I'm sorry about the deal at the border! It can be so frustrating there! Congrats on Aaron graduating! That's so exciting. Fun to be moving on to what he wants to do. We'll have to get together sometime this summer. The kids and I will be down for July and a bit of August, so if you're still around that'd be fun! I'm glad granma was able to come too! Lucky girl. I can't wait to see her again!!!
Holy Crapoly! Now I know why you said you were hating the boarder patrol on facebook. Wow. What a crappy experience. I guess it could have been worse (Ryan and Jessica), but still...that totally stinks! We miss you guys! It's so wierd to think that we probably won't see each other very much anymore. I guess it's up to the blogs now. :)
AHHHH,
I feel so bad about the border thing - and you were probably so tired because we talked so long. I hope everything works out - I am sure it will - your dad is so great to come and get you. How are little Dahl and Ty doing? Has Dahl been asking about where is toys are? So great to see you, thanks for visiting.
congrats aaron! That is awesome! And the border thing SUCKS. I hate how they treat you there when you know there are people smuggling drugs or whatever and all you have is a few papers with dates a little off and a van. sooooo stupid.
anwyay, I was so sad you wern't at church yesterday, I hope you are feeling better nad i can see you soon!
You must be flagged as "Dave's sister"!!! He ALWAYS gets hassled at the border. That sucks....
Glad to here you made it to Calgary. Let me know when you get to USC so we can get together and go to a Dodger game!!
YAY for Aaron!! Congratulations and YAY for you being in Calgary now! That makes me so happy. I will be calling you soon!
Oh man...the border totally sucks! We never have good experiences there. Congrats to Aaron though!!
We should def. get together while you're up here!
Marc will be done school at BYU next April and then we'll see where we end up but I'm not looking forward to importing/exporting vehicles across the border-Luckily I'm American and he's Canadian. We have a Canadian car and an American car so depending on which one we've got-that determines who does the driving across the border. We've definately learned what not to say over the years at the border. Hate those guys-too much power is so true!! By the way, congrats on Aaron graduating!!
Brooke
