calling all moms

I am in need of some help from all the moms out there.  I have been trying to transition Reid to a bottle, and so far it is near IMPOSSIBLE.  He wigs out when he sees the bottle coming, or he just chews on it.  We have tried different types of bottle, I've pumped, tried formula, different temperatures...no luck.  I have been trying to have Aaron give the bottle and that's not working either.  I am not in a SUPER rush to transition him, but I'm hoping within the next month he will take a bottle.  I am trying to train for a half marathon in April, so I definitely need him on a bottle by then.  My other boys took to a bottle like pros, so this is a new problem I have never had to deal with before.  So I am asking for as much input as possible from all the moms out there that read my blog!
 Thanks ladies

my only thought is have someone else give it to him. Will was IMPOSSIBLE to get onto a bottle, but out of necessity had to be on one. A friend came over for the night and had him taking it pretty good by the end. Will didn't have any other option but take the bottle or starve... GOOD LUCK.

if he's eating 3 big meals a day maybe you could try a large sippy cup instead of a bottle. you just need him to get enough liquids.

the only way i could get my kids to take a bottle is to stop breast feeding and go cold turkey. not fun, oh and someone else has to do it.

now i feed my babies 2-4 bottles a week from birth just so when i need them to take a bottle they will.

thats all i got... hope it helps.

Stac, I am totally going through this with Courtney too.
I have to have her off for girls camp in march and she will not take it. She didn't eat dinner tonight before she went to bed because she didn't want the bottle. I tried 3 different nipples and Brian fed it to her. She never sucked just kinda chewed it a little, then wasn't interested. But I did read that you can't give in, you have to stick it out when you are trying...so she went to bed without. I figure if she is hungry, she will eat.
We will they again tomorrow or the next day though. Let me know what works for you Gus though, cause I hate it!

Also, I am doing a half marathon in April too! Fun!

Stacey! You are such a good little mom. I tend to agree with Sandra, go with the large sippy cup. I really loved it when my kids went from breast feeding to drinking from a cup. Maybe he is a little young, but they have lots of great sippy cups out there, and then you dont have to worry about the teeth rotting problem. Good luck, he is SO CUTE!

Just be sure you are through with breast feeding for the right reason. He has had a wonderful start but be sure you feel that his time is up because you are both ready to end it. there will be many races in the future and he might need another 2 or 3 months. Just a thought! Please don't thinkI I am being judgmental because I just remember being in your situation and stopped breast feeding one of you kids rather early because I got antsy to get into shape again. it was hard on the kid and I later realized that I was just tired of it more than anything. bottles are not as easy or convenient so I like the idea of staying with it for a few more months and then right to a zippy cup when he is a little older Ya, I know this idea is not what you want to hear from me. Love Mom

Even though you are training for a race you can still continue to breastfeed, just drink enough fluids and keep your calories up! But if you are done breastfeeding then that's fine too. If he gets hungry enough he will take a bottle! Good Luck!! Hope we see you in April!

I wish there was a magic trick...I went through this with Austin. I ended up just trying a bunch of different bottles and just sticking with it. And eventually, one worked. It sucked to buy that many bottles. This time around I gave Mia a bottle every day and she has done lots better. But now she won't breastfeed and only wants a bottle! Ahh..the joys of motherhood :) LOVE YOU GUYS!
